Freja has not moved on. It does not get smaller. She is just getting used to carrying it.

Freja's brother died in the summer. His name was Villum. He was four. For two weeks everybody was very kind — then school started again, and now nobody says his name. They think it will upset her. It is the opposite. The worst thing is not crying. The worst thing is a whole day where nobody says his name once.

This is book 5 of six. All six are set in the same classroom, 3A, with the same six children. In every other book Freja is just someone in the background. In this one, you see the world from the inside.

How it works

The book never says how Villum died — that part is theirs. It shows what grief looks like from inside a nine-year-old, and what one classmate did that actually helped. Bereavement, and why the silence makes a person disappear twice, is explained on the last page, for the adult reading along.
